High Gables of Lake Forest

Update Summer 2021:

After some supply chain issues that have become part of covid in the construction industry, the exterior is really coming together. The stone banding and Zinc coated copper dormers have largely been installed. FInal gutters and trim paint will be up shortly. The inside is 100% roughed in for all MEP services, and the sheet-rockers will be on the way within weeks.

High Gables of Lake Forest

Although our Lake Forest clients are retired empty nesters, they are not downsizing. With as many as 20 grandchildren who visit often, they imagine a busy, multi-generational living space where the kids can swim, play, and take part in large family celebrations. They will also share the home with a golden retriever and a poodle who will have their own room with outdoor access and a dog-wash station. The program for this home was about 6,000 s.f plus a full finished basement full of toys, as well as a four car garage. The majority of the program is on the main level, but the owners did not want a long-low ranch that hugged the ground. They instead desired a home which was prominent on its site, which is set back over 500 feet from the road, surrounded by oak and poplar trees.

We designed a building shape that features three sharp peaks, each with a 54 degree slope, over the central main floor rooms, and a 4th over the 4 car garage. This design allowed a modest 2nd floor area (and a bonus loft/lookout over the high peak, while providing a commanding profile. The exterior will be predominantly a smooth off-white natural stucco, and gray & buff colored stone. The tall roofs are slate, and the balance of the home is covered in a low slope metal roof, architectural dormers sheathed in a flat seem, zinc coated copper panel system are also prominently featured.
