Classicist, No. 16.

Ed Twohey on Nov 19, 2019

We are thrilled to see that our Classic Georgian city home has been recognized by the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, and is featured in the new publication of the Classicist, No. 16.

From the Classicist website:

Focused on Chicago, the Classicist No. 16 explores the city's rich architectural history as well as contemporary examples of classical design through professional and student portfolios.

Classicist is an annual, peer-reviewed journal  dedicated to the classical tradition in architecture and the allied arts.  Featuring both portfolios and academic articles authored by leaders in the field, this beautiful, color-illustrated journal serves as a forum for contemporary, classical practice as well as a source of inspiration and information for students, practitioners, teachers, patrons, and enthusiasts.

Our Classic Georgian city home received an AIA small project award in 2016.  The project design was led by Principal Gary Beyerl and constructed by Middlefork Development.

The design of this 6,000 s.f. home was inspired by the great urban Georgian homes of London.  The exterior brick is coursed with an English bond pattern meticulously spaced between floor to ceiling double hung windows.  The divided lite pattern in the windows maintains the same glass proportions even as the window heights change on each floor.  The home features an arched front door entry and a vaulted entry hall.  An elliptical stair extends through all the four floor levels.
