Making Connections on the Course: BBA at the Chicago Association of Realtors Golf Classic

Chicago’s residential community is built on relationships. Architects, realtors, lenders, attorneys, builders and other professionals each bring different expertise to the process, and opportunities to connect beyond the immediate needs of a project help strengthen that larger network.

This summer, BBA was proud to return for its second year as a sponsor of the Chicago Association of Realtors Golf Classic, an annual event that brings together professionals from across Chicago’s real estate industry while raising funds for the Chicago Association of Realtors Foundation.

For BBA Principal Ed Twohey, that combination of professional connection and community support makes the outing particularly meaningful.

“There’s real benefit in the face-to-face personal interaction, and I think that’s more unique now than it was before,” Ed says. “We do things more intentionally, with a little more purpose, because we realize our time is precious and we want to make the most of every opportunity that we can get.”

Rather than golf in this year’s event, Ed and the BBA team spent the day stationed at a sponsored hole, giving them the chance to meet each group as it made its way around the course. Along with examples of BBA’s work, Ed brought a few pieces from his collection of classic golf clubs, which quickly became conversation starters.

“You find a way to draw people in and get into a conversation about the kinds of things that we do,” Ed says. “And you find out a little bit about the kinds of projects they may be involved in or what they do.”

Those conversations are particularly valuable at the CAR Golf Classic because of the breadth of experience represented. The outing creates a rare opportunity to spend time with people working throughout Chicago real estate, from brokers and lenders to attorneys and other industry professionals, exchanging perspectives and building relationships outside the context of a particular project or transaction.

Just as importantly, the day brings that professional community together in support of the Chicago Association of Realtors Foundation. The Foundation supports organizations across Chicagoland working to increase homeownership and combat homelessness, while also providing scholarships to help real estate professionals and their families pursue educational goals.

For BBA, supporting the Golf Classic is an opportunity to participate in both sides of that mission: strengthening connections within the industry and joining fellow professionals in investing in the larger community that their work serves.

And, as Ed is quick to point out, it doesn’t hurt that this particular group knows how to have a good time.
“The people at this event are animated. They’re fun,” he says. “We certainly enjoyed all of our interactions that day.”
